Colonel Van T. Barfort, 90, from Richmond VA is being ordered by his homeowner association to remove the flag pole on his property.

Did you miss it? Look at the Colonel?s picture again. See what?s hanging around his neck? Yep.

The Congressional Medal of Honor.

?The decorated veteran of three wars, now 90 years old, raises the American flag every morning on the pole, then lowers and folds the flag at dusk each day in a three-corner military fashion.?

You pissed yet? If not. Leave. Immediately.

From the Richmond Times Dispatch:

In a priority mail letter, the Coates & Davenport law firm in Richmond is ordering Barfoot to remove the pole by 5 p.m. Friday or face ?legal action being brought to enforce the Covenants and Restrictions against you.? The letter states that Barfoot will be subject to paying all legal fees and costs in any successful legal proceeding pursued by the homeowner association?s board.

Barfoot lives in the Sussex Square community in far western Henrico; its board of directors rejected a plea from Barfoot in July to approve the pole, disallowing the fixture on aesthetic grounds.

You can read the entire article from the Richmond Times Dispatch here.

So here is what all of us need to do for Colonel Barfoot. It is the very least we can do for him in return for his heroic service, sacrifice, and patriotism for us all.

The first one of these idiots that tried to tell me that I could not fly the Flag that I defended and has been the source of pride for our country for so long...

This is the kind of crap you could expect from a bunch of bottom feeding, Don't spank your kids, don't look at me look at you, your life should run my way... lawyers! [smirk]

To say that it would not end well would be the understatement of the century!

Col. Van T. Barfoot was facing a 5 p.m. deadline tomorrow (12/4/09) to remove the flagpole or deal with the legal consequences of willfully violating an order from his neighborhood's community association.

Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) has "intervened to help negotiate a settlement in the dispute".

That deadline has now been moved back one week. This is good news! The media coverage, public support, phone calls, emails and faxes DO make a difference.

Together, we CAN make a difference! Keep up the great work.

I joined this group on facebook lastnight when it had 12 members, right now it has 3552 members  :o

The same action was taken here previously...

Same circumstances ~ Retired military officer with honors.

He lost and the flag & pole came down.

What is new....  maybe more supprt, internet groups are strong, alive, and well.

What military leader in his right mind would be a member of a Socialist group like a HOA.

I think the guy is an Idiot for being a dues paying member.

I classify HOA's right up their with the evil empires we fought wars against for our freedom.

HOA's and the folks that support them ~ Why don't we call them what they really are.  Yes it is wrong, No I don't like it, But I'm not gonna get up in arms about it.  THe HOA and the HOA mind set is the evil thing here.

There is a greater break down that lead us to the flag issue, The Colonel keeping his flag flying will not change the world view of these people and the Colonel being a HOA member is part of the problem.

wonder how the members of that hoa board would feel about phone calls around 3 am ?

yea I would lol

apparently they have disconnected all posted #'s  ;D ;D

I'll be down there on sunday, might have to drive by to put some flags on the mailboxes ;D

Its on Drudge Report , the front page of Fox News and Col . Barfoot now has a legal team pro bono . Oh yeah some guy named Senator Warner is now involved too.

Maybe I didn't read the article carefully, but what does this guy's military service or decorations have to do with his voilation of the homeowner's covenants?  Everyone should be treated the same and I would be ashamed to use my military service as a way to get what I want.  Miltary service isn't a free pass to break rules.

the fact that he was initially told that he "could" fly the flag, then was denied, and the thing he is supposedly in violation of having a flag that doesn't meet their "aesthetic guidelines" which they unfortunately forgot to document to use in such a case. Their guidelines in the past apparently have come by form of a closed door vote. The fact that he is such a decorated officer is simply an additional kick in the stuff.

The problem is that it does not violate the HOA's covenant as the flagpole is not specifically prohibited. They just decided that they didn't like it on aesthetic reasons
