diamond plate inner door panels

for a long time now, I've wanted to throw away my old doors inner panels. they kept falling apart and I just couldn't take it no more. Rocky Road gave me the idea and I decided to go to it.  It's a very simple way to create a new look and to throw those annoying old panels away.  all you need for this project is a saw, a drill, magic marker and 1 square meter diamond plate aluminum piece.

We start by taking the old panels out and marking the form on the aluminum panel.

Than we start cuting.

once we've finished cuting it's time to see we did it right  ??? good.  now we need to mark all of the holes needed. Drilling the holes is simple. the handle place you can cut with the saw. the only tricky thing is to cut the window handle place. I just did a few small halls and finished with a small saw.

now it's time to put it place. before that you might want to do some cleaning inside and oiling the window mechanism if needed. I've placed the panels with metal screws. 3 on top and bottom and 1 in every side.

I'm happy with the new set up. there are no ratteling and noises, it looks nice and I'm sure I'll brake before they will.

Thanks for the write up. My passenger side cover is ripped and i need something new. I like that idea its got a very "CLEAN" look. :) I like that look of metal rather than just conventional diamond plate. Where did you get it?

where did I get what? The idea or the metal?
You can get the aluminum in any place that sells metal. Over here, the it's 2mm thick and it comes 1mX1m in size so you have left overs for extra stuff.

Those are nice. What kinda fasteners did you use to attach them with?

I installed some on my rig and just used self tapping screws.  Its a very easy install.

I kinda figured that was the case, but I couldn't see any bolt heads in his pics. Thanks for confirming my thoughts.

:) Hi guys, i just joined moments  ago and like the site very much.
im about to fit this diamond cheq pate to my sj jeep so thought id comment.

i think it looks the nuts and am also going to some on my bonnet, so i can stand on in if i get stuck in the mud or water.
merry xmas to all also ;D

Looks good guys! Need to to something like that too. My panels are falling apart fom water/mud damage.

But wouldn't the aluminium get very cold inte the winter?

Im doing mine soon. ive got another jeep now so i will fit it into the new one.
its a later model and also a samurai sport so wohoo im well happy !
1993 model  :)
as for it being cold. when were the old panels warm lol

Aluminum doesn't get cold or hot. it's not like steel or iron. sure, if it's freezing it might be a bit cold and if you'll throw it to the fire it might get a bit hot, but normally it's fine. I think  :-\\\\

It doesn't matter what kind of metal you use, if it's 10 degrees outside, that metal is going down to 10 degrees.  If the sun is shining on it, it will get hot.  Aluminum does transfer heat to/from the air more readily, so it will heat up and cool down faster, but it will still get hot/hold.
