Does anyone know if a 3rd member from a 94 four runner will fit in the front or rear housing of '79-85 minitruck axles?
 
As long as it's the 8" thirds, and I am almost positive that they are, they will work. I don't think they went away from the 8" until '95.5 in the Tacos.
 
I thought V-6 3rds were larger and required hoiuosing grinding.

At least that is how I recall us getting the V-6 into a mino truck housing.

But other then ring gear clearance it fit well.

The housing is the same, the main difference is the cooling fins on the outside (at least in appearance).  I had to do a small bit of grinding on my rear, but that was to clear the 5.29 ring.  Other than that, I could pull my 4cyl third out and drop in a V6 third and call it a day.

Takes a lot more than just grinding,have to cut out a section for the locker hub gear
and change two bolt locations.
edit: just realized this is over year old....
