92 tracker engine light stays on.

1992 tracker 8v auto. Runs and drives. Does miss at idle. Engine light stays lit. Will not allow retrieval of codes. I have located the nam switch and flipped it with the only result being the light dimmed slightly. Pulled ecu to replace caps (good insurance), it is a previously rebuilt unit. Any suggestions or anyone that has came across this? Don't want to start throwing parts at it for no reason
 
Well, guess no one has ran into this issue. Pulled the ecu to replace caps, and it apparantly was a rebuilt (at some time) unit. And looked like a crime scene inside. Ordered a Cardone replacement and engine light is now off, and shows the all clear code when checking it. Hope it helps someone in the future 🤷‍♂️
