1.3L timing swap to 1.6L
Has anyone done this mod? (1.6L timing gear setup on a 1.3L)?

Been curious as to my "squeaky belt sounds" and I believe it is timing related...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Upgrade-Kit-Timing-Cover-Cam-Crank-Shaft-Bolt-Pulley-Belt-Suzuki-Samurai-86-95-/292156193601?hash=item4405ddbb41:g:u58AAOSwT5xZRz0b&vxp=mtr

All would be fine, correct?

IS the cam gear larger (more teeth)?

I would want to do this before I get the adjustable timing cam gear due to the belt differences (wider and teeth style)

Any info helps sway my decision!

the number of teeth on the gears should be the same. I was running a 1.6 upper pulley on my 1.3 after the 1.3 pulley cam loose on me.
Eventually swap in a 1.6 and getting rid of the V belt was the best thing ever.

Did a similar swap on my 3cyl geo. Upgraded to the newer model wider round toothed timing belt and 4 ribbed pulleys used all the pulleys of off a swift gt motor I had laying around and the T belt from a 96 3cyl.

I have a 1.6  cam gear and 1.3 crank gear from a metro machined down to fit 3/4 belt.    I couldnt get the cover on using the wider 1" belt

Maybe this is why the seller sells the timing cover with it also?

Might be my next purchase!  [thumbsup]

I'd be interested to know what the cover is off of.   Do 1.6 covers fit on 1.3 engines? Looks like a neat kit.

I had a similar situation, when i added the tracker p/s on mine. I needed a multi ribbed crank pulley. And also wanted to get rid of the v - belts.  I simply redrilled the holes onto the crank timing gear. The 1.6 crank pulley actually fits perfectly, on the 1.3 crank timing gear. The difference is the bolt patterns. The 1.3 uses 4 bolts and the 1.6 uses 5 bolts. In fact one of the bolt holes lines up. Only need to drill and tap 4. The other pulleys are interchangeable. Btw... This is a good remedy,  if your trying to upgrade the drive belts and pulleys. Not helpful, if your timing belt or components are the problem.

I would think the cover is off of the 95-97 metro/swifts that had the 1.3 sohc motors. The ones with the aluminium valve covers everyone likes for there samurais.
The 1.6 is slightly taller then the 1.3 so I doubt it would.

No. The block height is taller on a 1.6.

I am running a redrilled 1.6 crank pulley on my 1.3, for my trackick power steering. The thing you have to watch, when you do that, is the timing mark on the 1.6 crank pulley is not in the same place as the 1.3 mark. I don't recall offhand how much it is off, but it seems like around 5 degrees. The easy way to fix that is turn the engine to top dead center (timing mark on crank pulley lines up with the 0 mark on the timing cover) with the 1.3 crank pulley in place and then carefully remove it, without turning the crank, then slip the 1.6 crank pulley in place and take a sharp chisel and put a new timing mark on the pulley that lines up with the 0 mark on the timing cover. Then you just have to remember which timing mark you need to use, when you want to check/adjust the timing. ;D
Another option for running a trackick crank pulley on a 1.3 is to get the lower timing gear off a 94-95 samurai 1.3...they had 5 bolt crank pulleys.

Yeah, I am fine. [thumbsup] Just not on here near as much as I used to be, since I don't have near as much free time as I used to have.
