I have 4.24 case gears. Welded front and rear on 36s, my 5speed trans, transfer case, and even my driveshaft get so hot I can't touch them. Is this just because they are in a bind with being welded front and rear or what? All fluids are new and topped off. Anyone else have this problem?

Ok, So here is my plan and if you see something that does not work let me know.  Also this is a trail only rig and is not street legal. I would not do some of these mods if I were going to be driving this on the street.

Rear 89 yota rear welded, 4.10s, Cherokee leafs reversed with 2inch lift shackles. (58in width)

Front 85 yota front welded, 4.10s, Custom radius arm set up with Cherokee stock coils and 1.5inch wheel spacers. (58in total width)

Transfer case will have 4.24s in it.

Wheels and tires will be 36x13 on 16x8 beadlocks with 4 inch backspacing(this is the main part i am worried about because I am afraid I will rub on the inside with that much back spacing)

Drive shafts I plan to leave as slip yokes right now but extend the factory drive shafts.

My tracker is already trimmed out about as much as possible in the wheel wells. If someone spots something I am missing or doing completely wrong please give me a heads up.

What my tracker was with 31s:

What it now will look like with 36s

I am looking at buying this doubler and need to know anyones opinion on it. I tried asking the guy selling it and he didn't seem to know to much. Does this just bolt in between my manual trans an my transfer case? And it is a full time doubler?

So my heim joint is the only thing I did not replace and I am kicking myself now because it has shown that it is in need of replacement. I ordered the correct part number from Summit FKB-JMX12T but the hole for the bolt is 3/4 and my bolt is 1/2 inch. Also it did not come with the spacers on each side to take up the slack. My current bolt is stuck so I will have to cut it out. Which means I will most likely cut the spacers as well. So I guess my question is, What are all of the parts that are used to make this Heim joint work and where can I buy them?  Thanks I need to get this done for Zookimelt in Two weeks!

I am pretty new here and haven't been very active. I figured I should document my build though. The build has went very slowly since in the middle of it We rebuilt a house (inside and out) and had a baby that then had to be in the NICU for six weeks. But we are all healthy and in our new house now so back on to the Tracker.  A short back story is I was an ATV guy and just got done rebuilding my 2003 z400 and made it a 434 with multiple goodies. Here is a pic of it

Needless to say I wrecked it to many times and cracked some ribs. Directly after this I somehow cut my leg with my chainsaw and decided I should probably get something that isn't as fast. Also my wife wanted something we could take the whole family on our trails with. So a SxS came to mind and the z434 went up for sale.  About a week later I realized a four person SxS was not going to happen. So I sold the z434 and some extra parts for about 3200 and started my search for a 4 dr zuk. I found my gem in indianapolis. a 1997 4wd tracker 5 speed with working A/C and 130,000 miles for $1600

Bringing her home
http://" />

My first outing to see what it was capable of in stock form.

" />

Realized Auto locking hubs are pretty useless so got a pair of manual locking hubs

" />

Also found a guy selling a used calmini 3 inch suspension lift, pretty junk 31s with wheels, and an axle that had a detroit ez locker in it.  I bought it all for 600 which I thought was fair. Bought new bushings through calmini for about 75, new shocks all around and some rear brake repair parts for about 180 from Orielly.  Then gave her to my friend that was wanting to start to do some offroad fab on the side. He said he would make me front and rear bumpers and rock sliders for 500 bucks. I said go for it! So he got to work.

He started with some mild trimming and cut out the old rusted rockers

" />

Went above and beyond and cut out rear fender well rolled it over and sealed it back up to make it flush with rear doors, also made patch panels for some rust that was on the drivers rear quarter.

" />

Added some extra protection while making sure no one ever puts a body lift on this and keeps it low COG  :o

" />

Decided the front wasn't cut out enough and needed to go to the extreme while still boxing in the fenders to keep the engine compartment sealed up

http://" />

Had to see what it looked like with the doors off, considering I will be driving it like this the majority of the time during the summer months

" />

Started making the front bumper with receiver and mounting some lights
" />

Tubes! Bumpers and fenders also a stinger and some driving lights

" />

All finished up from my buddy, I ended up giving him 500 and my stock tires that he needed for his girlfriends car.

" />
" />

Finally moved it to my garage

" />

Got my winch test mounted on the removable mount. it will stay inside the tracker most of the time.

" />

Started working on the front end with the Grand prix struts. I didn't modify the strut mounting holes enough and need to move them in more. That is why the following pics have a huge camber problem. My carbide bits for my die grinder should be here tomorrow to fix this issue. hahaha

" />

" />

" />

" />

Found me some much more evenly worn 31s that I will be swapping on soon for 100 bucks

" />

Started on the rear and broke every bolt for the suspension. took me 4 hours with my angle grinder and air hammer chisels to get the old stuff out without damaging the brackets. But after all that trouble I got the suspension in, Locker installed and brakes fixed.

This is how she sits right now. I still need to make skid plates, swap tires, bleed brakes, fix alignment issues, wire up winch and lights, Monstaliner the inside floor, outside lower doors and the fenders that are black. I have a jerry can and highlift jack that I need to mount some where also, but haven't done that yet. Anyways thanks for all the help and articles that are on this site. It has been much appreciated. I will continue to update this as I go along. It will be at Zukimelt in July if any one is planning on going. Oh yah the best part about this thing is I am financially in it almost the exact same of what I sold my quad for.

I have installed the front portion of my calmini 3in suspension kit. My arms are angled down and the springs bow out a little. I have seen pics like this online but I have also seen some where the arms are straight and level and the springs don't bow at all. My kit is a used kit so I don't believe that the springs aren't broken in yet. So which is correct? I am also using the grand prix strut mod, if that makes a difference

I tried installing my new to me diff drop kit and all brackets line up except this one seems way off and in order to line it up ill break my aluminum diff in half. Any ideas?

I am installing a calmini 3in suspension lift. I have broken some bolts and need to get some replacements, Here are the bolts that broke. ( it is kind of impressive) 1 front 17mm control arm bolt, all 4 rear trailing arm bolts and both of the body side wishbone 3rd link bolts. I believe that they are all they same size, correct me if I'm wrong. I just haven't cut them out yet and want to get so new ones on their way to me. Length, Thread pitch, and size M8, M10 etc would be great. Also any good place online to buy these, I live in the sticks with no metric around here. Thanks ahead of time for any info you can give.

I have a 97 4dr 5 speed tracker that I am starting to build. She runs great! purrs like a kitten. I have only put about 30 miles on her since I have owned it. I believe I am getting Antifreeze in my oil one way or another, typical symptoms, little bit of consistent white smoke out of the exhaust that smells sweet. Does not go away once I have achieved operating temp, Antifreeze looks a little milky, as does the dipstick. I have done a compression test which has told me all cylinders are equal with no spark plugs showing any obvious evidence burning antifreeze. I have never ran it long enough to see if the coolant level drops. The reason I am skeptical about it being a head gasket is because it runs so smooth, absolutely no sign of a miss fire at all plus I haven't seen the coolant level drop. Before I rip into this thing and replace a headgasket, I want to make sure that there isn't a possibility of it being something simpler. Thanks,

Here is where she stands right now.

This is Phase one complete. Which includes, 15x8 wheels, 31x10.50 tires, boxed steel rock sliders to replace old rusted rockers, New lighting, Tube front end with stinger,Tube Fenders, box and sealed wheel wells, front hitch mount, Front skid plate, lower A-arm mount brace. Out back the old rusted metal in the quarter panels has been replaced. Quarter panels trimmed and folded for additional clearance. Along with the new steel bumper and hitch. At this point there is no lift at all on this. Things to do next. Install 3in Calmini suspension lift (which replaces every suspension component on the vehicle), Manual locking front hubs, Locker in the rear. Then Desert Tan Paint Job.
