We need your help!

As we all know, legal trail riding opportunities in the East are rare. Even more rare are NEW places to ride. With your help, we can create a new opportunity for off-road enthusiasts.
The Rock Run Recreation Area is a multi-use facility owned by the Cambria County Conservation and Recreation Authority. It was formerly owned by a coal company and was purchased with state monies and turned over to the CCCRA. The area now boasts in excess of 50 miles of ATV trails, with another 100 miles of trails planned. Rock Run is located near Patton, PA, about 2 hours east of Pittsburgh.
Last fall, State Representative Gary Hulska (D) held a meeting for those who had emailed the park in hopes of OHV trails. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Western PA 4x4 Trails Advisory Committee was formed to assist the RRRA with creating trails.
After countless hours of trail planning and building, a small trail ride was held in November 2007. While cold and snowy, the event was considered a success. When spring broke, the Committee addressed erosion concerns and continued to create trails.
Last weekend, the park held its first official trail ride. It was a huge success for those involved. Members of Big Rubbers, Black List Wheelers Association, and Maryland Creepers brought approximately 30 rigs to the park. All trail levels from easy green trails to brutal red trails were run, some for the first time.
With our continued success and good relationship with the park, the board of Rock Run appears ready to purse more OHV trail opportunities. While they know ATVs, they are not aware of the popularity of the OHVs.

We need your support! Please send an email to both of these addresses. Please indicate that you are happy to see the park and would like to see more trails in place. We can make this happen!

Guys please help in supporting this cause, a few emails from everyone showing support and we might just have a new OHV park. With them being so hard on the OHV parks and closing alot of them down we need to fight to open up new ones. If anyone wants to see pictures i have a post in the offroad photo's section of the forum with tons of pictures form this place and our last club trail ride there. We NEED to get this place open to the public.

You missed a heck of a good time, but only BLWA, Big Rubbers and MD creepers were invited.

They are really hurting financially, and we are really pushing them for it to be open to the public. The emails are to shine the light on the potential revenue that could come from this place if it were open to offroading.

The 2009 wheeling season is just around the corner here in the Northeast. Rock Run Recreation Area and the Western Pa 4x4 Trails Advisory Committee would like to thank you for making 2008 a successful first season at the park. We have learned quite a bit in our first year and hope to make some changes in how we will operate in 2009.
Unlike last year, our open rides will not require a pre-registration. The committee will, however, still provide trained guides for each open trail date. For clubs who wish to have a club-only trail ride, we will gladly accept your group of 15 or more trucks. If your club would like to join up with another club, please go to our website at http://wpa4xtrac.org and join the forum. Introduce yourself and inquire about other clubs.
The fee schedule will remain the same as 2008. Daily fees are as follows: $25 for driver. $5 per passenger. Camping is $10 for a group of 6 individuals (camp sites are quite close, so you can camp with your whole group).
If you have any questions or would like to request a club-only trail date, please contact Dan Guyer at dan58@marylandcreepers.com

April 4 - OPEN
May 9 - OPEN
June 14 - OPEN
July 11 - OPEN
August 2 - OPEN
Sept 20 - OPEN
Oct 10 - OPEN

Trails at Rock Run are rated by the following system:
Green/low blue: stock vehicles and those with a mild lift.
Blue/low black: 33” tires and at least one locker. Potential for body and drivetrain damage.
Upper Black: 35” tires(minimum requirement), two lockers, winch, and rollover protection. Body and drivetrain damage are very possible.

Additional required equipment for all vehicles is as follows:
1.) Have solid recovery points on the front and rear of the vehicle.
2.) Have a capable tow strap – no metal hooks or chains.
3.) Have an operational fire extinguisher.
4.) Have properly installed seat belts for all passengers.
5.) Have a lifting jack capable of lifting the vehicle's tire off the ground.
6.) Have a fullsize spare tire compatible with the other four tires.
7.) Have tools available to change a tire.
8.) Have a standard First Aid kit.
9.) Have your vehicle in good running condition.

They are really pushing towards having a open wheeling park, but the process is slow and they don't have a huge trail network yet. They are working on it though with the help of several volunteers. Take a trip out on one of the scheduled ride dates, you will not be dissapointed. This place has some amazing terrain.
