. I have a '77 celica Gt that has standard ignition points. I bought an electric distributor and from your directions it seems easy. However, on my coil/igniter/resistor I have more than just 3 set of wires going on. I'm pretty sure I had all the wires set up properly, but then again if I did it right it would have worked.

I doubled checked and made sure that the new distributor was working, the signal rotor was at spec as well as the air gap. I used the original 12v keyed wire (I'm pretty sure it's the black wire on top of the resistor with the yellow tape) and I made sure it read 12v. I'm just lost. If anything, I now know how to install a distributor properly. Before I couldn't even get my car to start. Anyway, if anyone had my problem before or done this with my exact car setup. I would love some help.

If not, I guess I'll go the pertronix route. Thanks a lot.

Hey, I know it's been a while since this thread was opened, but I have just used this write-up to build my own bypass.  I can't throw it in until the morning.  But thank you for the help,  you were right the pirate thread was way less descriptive.  I'll post tomorrow with my results.  Thanks,  D

Worked perfectly.  Just no tach.  Anybody still around that might have any ideas?

Aftermarket tachs attach to the coil on the negative side if i remember from when i use to have a tach hooked up. You will have to find the factory wire that runs the tach and attach it to the negative side of the coil. That should make your tach function. I think on my toyota harness it was brown, but that is from memory over a year ago...

That should get you moving in the right direction.
