Notes about the event from From NC4X4....
http://www.nc4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43398 Thank you...To WHOEVER gathered all the trash at kodak and other ''hot spots'' When I drove the trail to pick up trash,Sunday evening..i was happy to see all the bags that were full and ready to pick up.This sure did make my life a lot easier. Shows how responsible everyone is, and it looks good to the forest service too!!
Ranger Deborah Walker and her staff should be thanked for their efforts this weekend! They also put in the long days Friday and Saturday and their cooperation and help was invaluable in the success of this event. Ranger Walker held a de-briefing after the race both days to share positives and negatives of the days activities, both from the F.S. perspective and the race volunteers. The F.S. did not say they would not do it again, so I take that as a positive sign. On the other hand, there were F.S. concerns relating to environmental damage, especially tree damage, race communications, the amount and length of delays caused by breakages, logistics for emergency situations and crowd control. I didn't hear any F.S. concerns that I thought were unreasonable or that couldn't be worked out through mutual cooperation in the event of another race happening. I think that we probably exceeded the F.S. expectations of how the race would succeed and earned a chance for another 4x4 Cross race!
A volunteer's perspective:
Most of the trail volunteers worked both days. They were instrumental in the success of this event along with the cooperation of the Forest Service rangers! Most spent over 12 hours on site Friday and 14 hours Saturday! However, this is dwarfed by the amount of time Dylan W spent just this weekend, not to mention the work he has put in on this event since it's inception. I understand that Sean, who I have never met by the way, was the promoter of the event but IMO the race would not have happed without Dylan W's tireless efforts! Thanks, Dylan, for a job well done!
Dylan: Ok guys...I started this thread to say thanks to the vols.... and everyone involved..Sure I did alot during the race, but...Sean D and Dale are the guys that have been working tirelessly around the clock for the past several months, pulling off the impossible. Everything, and I do mean everything, all starts with them. From the dream of this event, to the completion on Sunday, was the idea and vision of Sean D. Sure there have been some hickups along the way by everyone, but all in all.. this was a hugely successful event, and we need to all recognize this. I mean, just getting the rangers to listen to the request, let along them agreeing to hold it in the Nat. Forest was an act of congress in itself..not to mention the un-liscensed rig rt. being opened up so yall did'nt have to trailer to the race site. Then there were all the sponsors,prizes,vendors..ect.
All that was lined up by Sean. Dont forget about the web-site...that was a time consuming monster itself. This list goes on and on and on...Sean was able to line up new pit-bulls for all the super hard working..un-paid vols..that have been working since URE opened, to promote this event. That was an awsome feat and new tires for several folks IS A BIG DEAL!! Thats only a fraction of the hard work that Sean has accomplished in a short amount of time. When I sit here and reflect...Thinking about Sean, his wife, his 6mo. old boy, his family....man that guy has sean some balls and went out on a thin limb for all of us. I would not have had the guts to even come close to what he has done for this sport. I certainaly appreciate all the props I am recieving and it makes my heart swell, but at the same time...I feel like a glory hog, and that aint me! I want everyone to think about what I have said, and then ask yourselves......could/would you have pulled this off, in this amount of time, with all the hurdles Sean has had to deal with?
I think we should all focus on thanking Sean and the rest of American Wheeler staff and say thank you to ALL....not just me! Thanks, Dylan
