Tracker to Buggy transformation happening now!!

« on: Friday, January 25, 2008, 04:16:31 PM »

Ok, I guess it time i start my very own build thread. Things are going slow so far but i am off to a start. I have the back half of the body cut off and the hole filled in. Cut the rear section of the frame off and replaced with some DOM and cut the front fenders off because they were in my way. So far i have 4 2.0" sway-a-way air shocks,4 38 sx swampers, about 120 feet of DOM,a couple boxes of heim and flex joints, and some cheap summit racing buckets with harnesses. The plan is 105-108 WB using the yota axles i already have and couple of link suspension and some hydro steering. I will get some pics up as soon as my neighbor shows up and takes them. mikeb

EDIT- I guess i should have said that it has been SAS for more than a year already but on YJs and about 91 WB the whole purpose of this redo is to extend the wheelbase and to get away from leafs. I have trashed quite a few front springs and want something a lot tougher.

Well after him calling me and reminding me that I'm slacking on the job of taking and uploading these pictures.  Well to cut to the chase here they are.

Ok, i guess that gives everyone an idea of where i am with this project. I have some of the tubing for the cage bent and alot of ideas/plans in my head for how i want things to turn out. There is going to be another tube above the one on the rear that will tie into the cage and run even with the frame tube, should look decent. Very soon i will be starting to build the 4 link rear...should be fun. Please note the air shock in the wheelchair--wheelchairs are the most important item in a shop and they are fun to ride wheelies and drink in! Well lets hear what ya think, unless you think i have a mess cause i already know that. mikeb

Over the last few weeks i have gotten a few things done. Built a crossmember to mount the brackets for the four link to attatch to. Axle truss complete. All rear link bars are done. Just need to get the crossmember welded in and the rear suspension is done. Also got some wheel spacers to help with clearence. Also finished up some minor details...well on my way to being finished. mikeb

Your 4 door is way to nice for me. I cant have nice stuff because i destroy it, so it just makes more sense for me to start with junk...cause that is what i always end up with. ;D  Yesterday i was planning on getting the rear 4 link bolted up but i somehow made the lowers 7" too long so after some cussing and cutting and grinding i got them fixed and all of my tabs made. Now i need to do some welding and the rear suspension is done other that mounting the air shocks but they are going to tie into the cage so... they might be awhile. mikeb

P.S.--Come on with the comments!
