what are hub gears?

Hub gears are inside the hub and ride on the axle shaft.  The outside have notches in them so when you engage the hub, it will actually engage that gear which is riding on the shaft, to transfer the power to the wheel.

With the Longfields, they recomend replacing them because the stock gears can strip out and take out a birf, and it voids the warranty.  Plus, it just makes the front axle stronger.

I got a little unpleasant surprise today.....

I went out to get a little work done on my "boxing in" of the winch area before work....I got the garage all warmed up and made a few cuts with the pneumatic cutoff tool and noticed my air pressure was low... I just bought a new compressor before winter so, what could it be? I checked the breaker and it was tripped.  :-\\
I reset the breaker and heard the motor humming LOUDLY.....  :(  I shut it back off and called the Ingersoll Rand tech line...... Sure enough, they are experiencing some problems with the "titanium" series.... Turns out the pumps fail and just LOCK UP......  [smiley=cussing.gif]

But, They are shipping me a new pump as I type this... A UPGRADED pump that puts out more CFM!!!!  ;D

So, that should be here in 3-4 business days.....  >:(

On a happier note, I worked out a deal on my tubing AND BENDER today......

A buddy of mine moved to the other side of the country.... Utah. He had just purchased 200' of 1-5/8 (.120 wall) tubing for a HEEP project and a BRAND NEW JD2 bender before he got a really good job offer and moved...
So, I called him today and bought 100' of the tubing from him.... I asked him if I could use his bender until he came back to pick up his jeep and he said, "sure, it needs somebody to keep the rust off of it."
So I'll be picking that up in a week or two.. ;D ;D ;D
