I likes me some french fried taters... Ummhuh...

« on: Monday, July 16, 2007, 01:32:50 PM »

Well, it's time to start a new project!  [jump]
Yesterday, I picked up a 2001 4-door Tracker. It has been wrecked on the passengers side, (front fender area) and will require the frot p.s. framerail to be changed out. (No big deal, I've done it before.)
Here's the kicker, it only has 21,000 miles on it and still smells like a new car!
It is a 2-wheel drive, so I will be hanging a 4.16:1 Sammy T-case behind the 4-spd auto. I also acquired a set of Toyota axles with 5.29's and a spool (or Lincoln Locker, not sure) in the rear.
I want to keep it simple and drivable (street) so, I plan on using wrangler springs with missing links. (made so that I can "pin" them shut for street driving.)
I will be running either 33x12.50-15 TSL's or 36x12.50 TSL's.
I have both, I just haven't decided which to run. (probably the 36's)  ;D

Well, I did some measuring and..... the toyota rear axle is 4" NARROWER than the tracker rear. So, now I'm thinking about wagoneer dana 44's????
As for steering, I will be using a Toyota IFS box that I already have.  ;D

By the way, I'm open to suggestions at this point. I've got a pretty good idea of how I want to do it, but I would like to hear some ideas.  ;D

Toyota IFS rear is 3" wider and you can put the Sky widening kit on the front.

I am getting excited about this build.   Sounds like a nice family wheeler project.

That's a good idea! Will my 4cyl third members work in the IFS rear? I do not know much about 'Yota's.... Yet.

Not all of them were.  At some point they switched from the passenger side to the driver side drop in the front and they went from offset rear to centered rear.  I thought it was in the mid 80's?  Not 100% sure when.  HTH ;D

I am using a Sammy t-case, but I already have the 'Yota axles with 5.29's so, I'm gonna use them.

Yes, the Yota 3rd will interchange with the IFS rear.
