Hello all, I am new, and this is my first post. I just bought an 84 SJ 410 that doesn't run. When you try to start it it "pops" like a V8 engine would if the distributor was 180 degrees out. Most of the vacuum lines are missing off the motor, and some of the electric wires have been hacked up. I would like to spend a little bit of time trying to get this motor running instead of just swapping it out. It has the 1.0 liter 4 cylinder engine in it and I am looking for a vacuum diagram, under hood wiring diagram, and any or all information about the little engine, like firing order, tune up info. I also would like to know for sure if the front cylinder is number 1 and if they follow in order to the back. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

hi!
shouldnt be a problem to get that thing running:
-put first cylinder on upper death center...
-check the distributor for the right position...
-check the disruptor for the right gap...about 0.3-0.5mm
-check the firing order 1-3-4-2
-there aren´t that much vacuum lines to get that thing running...one from the distributor to the inlet manifold...........
-check ignition timing...about 10°before upper death center...................

i dont know anything about the 410, but you may try looking on the side of the block or perhaps the intake manifold. there should be some numbers stamped or embossed there to tell you what cylinder is which. when i get home from work in the morning, i'll check my manual and see if it has anything about the 410 in there for ya. hope this helps

Thanks so much for the warm welcome and all the advice. I stumbled upon a good deal today. A guy my buddy knows just pulled a 1.3 sami motor and trans out of a sami to put in a 1.6 and tracker tranny. I bought the 1.3 motor and trans for 150.00 and the kicker is the motor is complete with starter, alt, carb, everything including the radiator hoses. I also got a intermediate shaft that I am told will bolt right up to the SJ tcase. I guess I will go on and swap it out as i am learning that parts are not easy to come by for the 1.0s. This SJ is my wifes first wheelin rig, I think the 1.3 will be more than enough motor for her to learn with as I am only putting 29" tires on it.

If anyone has any info on this swap I would sure appreciate it.

Thanks again and happy wheelin!     :) :) :)

Alright Alex, may have to give you a call or email sometimes. I have a 1982 sj410 that I bought from NC Zuk (Art Lilley) that I trying to redo and make run. The body is perfect, just - a motor and transmission. I now have a 84 for the motor and transmission, but may need a few things.
