I have stock gears, 29" super swamper radial tires and a 1.6 n/a diesel with 2.25"exhaust and K&N filter in stock intake housing. What should I expect for top end power? Climbing small hills in NC feels like it is leaning out or something. It pulls pretty hard in 4th to about 50-55mph. In 5th under 55 it bogs down and will slow down going up slight grades. Is this normal? On the highway above 55 it does ok, kind of like my old 1.3.
What is a good way to tune this motor? What is the best way to get a little more fuel out of the IP on the top?
Am I asking too much? I really like this engine overall, and can't wait to go to Uwharrie next weekend.

Yep. Your normal with your 1.6NA.

Its really nice but gets more like the 1300 when you use 5th gear with the large tires. Its very similar to the old 1300. As you noticed, though, it is like you have more HP and Torque than the 1300 because you can feel it on the low end. The 1300 would feel like what you've experienced at about 4300 rpms but you'd have to be there all the time to keep it. Not good. That's the big advantage of the 1.6NA not to mention the fuel mileage doubles.

You can do the fuel and governor mods with your NA injection pump and it will make a significant difference. However, you need to make sure you have good cooling capacity when you start messing around with "more fuel" because you don't have a turbo to compensate for more air. That means you need a good air to oil cooler and a large radiator if you don't already have the Quantum 27 incher.

After you have those two items sorted out, then I'd proceed to the fuel screw and governor mods.
