Do the 30's Scrub?  Did you have to cut anything to keep from Scrubbing?  How does it ride?  Handle well?    ;D

I was surprised how much they rubbed on the front. If you look at the front plastic bumper you can see where I took the entire corner out. I had to remove the plastic inner fender and do a bunch of hammering. It now doesn't rub when the suspension cycles or when turning, but I did put 1 inch spacers on. The rear rubs a bit when fully flexed but should be fine when I do a small body lift.

It rides and drives nice but would improve with some 5.12's. With the wider stance she corners like a race car  ;D

Their is a trick to Re-Drill and Step the rear most lower a-arm pivot bolt out .5"

This will step the wheel out a little and move it forward just slightly.  It works on the earlier kicks and has been called the Hagan Widening mod.  It was alos used to run two equal legnth / style CV's so you could carry one spare (3-bolt flange CV ) and be set to repair either side.

This will change the steering geometry slightly but it can be made functional.   As I recall ~ Mike Hagen is Certified Front End Alignment Tech by trade.  He incorperated this design to be functional and drivable.  His Tracker is set up to drive to Moab wheel all week and make the return trip home.

I wonder if this would work on the 99's ? It is a vey safe mod to do, and also adds caster. I want to do it on my new rig.

I don't think you will find any company willing to make the modification, as liability would be very high.  It is custom work, so shop insurance policies may not cover it.

It will be up to you and your fabrication skills, so ... YES, SAFETY IS A BIG CONCERN.

I beleive the general ideia is safe, But their are many other issues that must be delt with.

1. Gusseting the new hole in the rear crossmember (As I recall Mike welded a thick washer over the new hole for added suport).
2. Steering will need to be addressed and alignment will need to be corrected.  The modification may place the settings outside of manufacturer specifications, so many jack in the box alignment shops will not touch it.
3.Larger tires will place more wear on bearings, steering components, and brakes.  This issue alone will scare some  automotive engineering pureist.

So Is it really safe...  ??? ...

My opinion is yes, I could build it for my wife to drive my daughter around safely.

I agree, this is a do-it-yourself job. I do think it could be done in two stages, so your vehicle isn't in the garage for weeks, waiting for you to "get around to it". If I were actually to do it, I'd start off with making the passenger side stub/3 bolt flange while still driving the vehicle, and get 2 drivers side axles, one for the passenger side, and another to modify/lengthen for the new drivers side, so all that stuff is ready for the big day. I'm sure if everything was ready, it could be done in a day, besides the alignment part.  I've actually been throwing around the idea of modifying another set of lower control arms to move the wheel forward an inch. Maybe I'll make a thread and gather others thoughts....

Mine:

Consists of a Cami 2003 Chevy Tracker 2.0L
Installed:
1.5" coil spacer front
Front strut extenders (2")
2" coil spacer rear
Monroe Crown Vic Interceptor Shocks w/ 3/8" pipe extenders as shims
1/4" Bumpstop extenders for all 4
5 x 245/75/16 on GV 16x7 Rims (245/75/16s are the MAX size to fit the stock rear tire carrier)

Removal of:
Front top strut bar
Sway Bar
Front Bumper (for now -> to be cut and put back on until I make a pre-runner)
Front Splash Guards (to be replaced with something once I hammer a bit of the fenders)

resulting in:

To be installing more lift in the rear and doing more fender folding due to the following:

So close... but yet just a bit so far
Where the tires rub the fender in the above picture has tore chunks of rubber from a few of my lugs on my MTRs

to be installed:
2" BL (from RRO)
5.12 Front & Rear R&Ps w/ an ARB Rear locker
Aisen or Warn front hubs
A new style bumper w/ winch
Stock Roof rack (mine never came with one and I can't seem to find them)
