Problem with my webber
« on: Sunday, October 23, 2005, 03:31:01 AM »
I bought a used webber(32/36 DAGV) so no instructions. I hooked it all up but my problem is it won't stay running at idle. It will run as long as i"m giving it gas but once I let off the gas the thing dies, I plugged all the lines that went to the intake and to the webber that was not used. So any advice is good advice.

adjust the idle.   Cable and idle mixture screw.
Partsdinosaur.    Your engine rebuild needs.

What did you do with the hose that comes from the valve cover. I didn't hook mine up at first, and it ran crappy.  It goes to your new air cleaner on top of the carb.

Triple check the adapter plate.

I would check the screen filter int he carb body. Big flat screw where the fuel inlet is. Be careful....it'll all fall out as you remove the screw. Clean the screen....maybe even remove the jets and blow air thru them and the pasages to clean it all out.
THEN do the lean best idle adjustment, adjust the throttle cable, then the regular idle.

Also, if you replaced a stock carb....check your timing first. It should be 10* BTDC. If you replaced an aging (going bad) stock carb...your timing could be off due to compensating for the bad carb.

http://www.roadlessgear.com/html/techarticles/weber/ Also I would put a little loctite on the adapter. Mine came loose one time and I actually though my engine threw in the towel.

Thats funny, I freaked out and thought the worse. MY "pops" went outside and said "sounds like MAJOR a vacuum leak" The engine was really screaming, through the adapters and the carb. HE told me the same thing, "your carb is loose". Dads are great aren't they.?

My engine started backfiring when it happened. Think 10x worse than your average beat up old civic with a fart can on it. I popped the hood and heard a hissing. Quick check of the plugs showed that they were all good. So I put my hands on the carb and wiggled it back and forth and the revs would go up and down as I did it. I cannot believe that it would even run that loose.  :o

I tried everything. Still have the problem is there something that could have gone bad on the carb.

they are a pretty simple carb.  Are all the jets the correct ones for your sami?  Sounds like your idle jets are plugged or wrong. Also did you follow the "lean best idle" procedure?

Short of the usual simple stuff, vacumm, clogs etc the only other thing I think could be the problem is the choke system. Beyond that it could be complicated.
