I have seen several posts asking about what a certain year combo would have, so I made up this list.  Hopefully, it is easy to interpret.

This list is for finding the factory axle ratio in North American (US and Canada) 89-98 Trackicks, based on year, body style, engine and tranny combo.  As far as I know it is 99.99999999% accurate.  There may be some oddball combos out there, and there may be variations to this list in non-North American models, but the list is correct, to the best of my knowledge, for all North American models.

4.30 gears have a 10/43 tooth count
4.625 gears have an 8/37 tooth count
5.125 gears have an 8/41 tooth count
5.375 gears have an 8/43 tooth count
5.625 gears have an 8/45 tooth count

I have personally verified (removed and counted) every combo on the list, except for the 89, 2 door, 1.3L, 5 speed, 5.62 combo and the 91, 4 door, 8V, auto, 8V, 4.625 ratio......but they have been verified by people who have actually removed the ratio from the listed combo.

FYI in case you come across or are looking for the following and want to confirm them

4.875 gears have a 8/39 tooth count
5.833 gears have a 6/35 tooth count (Calmini)

A couple of updates.....

I recently just verified the 91, 4 door, 1.6L TBI, 3 speed auto, 4.625 gear combo.
AFAIK, this is the only 4 door in which you will find a 3 speed auto tranny.....all other 4 doors will have a 4 speed auto tranny.


92-98 4dr 1.6L MPFI 3speed auto. 4.30
94-98 2dr 1.6L MPFI 4speed auto. 5.125

I don't believe those body style/tranny combos were ever available, so they can be removed from the list.

Good to know.  I didn't have them in my list, because I didn't know for sure what they had.  And I rarely run across any....I think I've seen one in my searching, and that was several years ago (before I really started paying attention to axle ratios).  But it would make sense that they would be the same ratios as regular trackicks.

FWIW, I think the bodies are virtually the same, despite comments by some that the Sport body is wider.  I haven't had the opportunity to measure to verify that, but when I had the windshield replaced a while back the installer said it was the same one used in the standard trackkick.

The brakes are larger, requiring 16" wheels.  I read somewhere on these forums that the Sport was originally designed for a V6, but emissions qualification did not occur soon enough for production.

I had a lwb Sport with the H20A 2.0 V6. The auto has 4.875 R&P's and the manual has 4.625. The same R&P's also apply to the swb version which came with either the J20A 2.0 4cyl which I have at the moment and in some markets  it also came with the H20A V6 like the lwb.

Those v6 2.0 are a rare animal I drove one of those once... unfortunally they're very hard to find in here but not impossible...

Quite a good number of V6 2 litre in the UK.

It's not the body that's wider, it's the frame (to accomidate the 1.8L)
I think the European Vitara Sport(of similar years) has a V6 in it.

That agrees with what I thought.

Pardon my --what's the word?-- narrowmindedness?  I keep forgetting there are many members here from other parts of the world.  When I said mentioned emission qualification I was thinking of the US bureaucratic regs.
