Ok there must be something wrong with mine I just checked it on fuel up and it's only getting 19.380mpg. My dieing 1.3 in the sammi gets 26 with a 1.6 TBI. I'm thinking electrical as it doesn't want to idle right, and when I bring it off idle I hear like a short arching from front of engine. Any ideas?

You're doing better than me.   My 97 Sport with 1.8 and auto with 245/75/16s has got a best of 18.5 mpg, usually around 16 in town.   It gets about the same mileage as my full size V8 Ram 4x4.  :P

Running perfectly I think the 4dr only gets about 25 mpg highway.  My 2dr gets about 23mpg.

It just seems odd to me that the bigger engine with multi port EFI gets less than a tired 1.3 with TBI. Maybe the fact that it idles like a big block with an oversize cam has something to do with it. Guess I need to find what that arching noise is up front too. Do these engines have a crank sensor? And if so will that cause some of my problems?

If I keep it under 60MPH (Flat land / running to the coast) I get 24 MPG.   1991 1.6L 8v 4-dr with Cal Monkey 3" lift BFG 31" tires + Snorkle and roof basket.
Mileage confirmed by GPS.

My 96 4-dr 4wd auto got a consistant 29MPG on my daily commute (90% Hwy / 10% city).  All stock on stock tires using the stock ODOMETER which has been known to vary.  SOme accuse the stock Odometer of calculating milage faster then miles actually occure.  My 96 was close on miles and speed but I never verified it.

My 98 2-dr 1.6L 3-spd auto 16v on 34" Swamper LTB's got 20 MPG on the 8hr road trip to Zuwharrie and back.  Confirmed by GPS.

to check the IAC which is number 1 wire and number 2? I don't want to hook up the postive battery wire ot the wrong terminal and damage the switch.
