I had the forward facing land cruiser box on my samurai. Worked good till it took a crap one day (old parts do that)

So i looked into getting another used box, and found out different years had different bolt patterns, so finding my exact box was going to be a PITA. So i decided to get it rebuilt. Called a company that does rebuilding and will drill/tap for hydro assist. Sure, they will rebuild it, but because of the differences in boxes, alot of the time they have to order parts from japan for them. Will take a month to get the parts, then the time for them to redo the box. Total cost up over 200$ for parts, plus labor.

In the end, i got a scout power steering box, forward facing pitman arm. They are cheaper, easier to source parts for, cheaper to rebuild, easier to find, and are a stronger box. My rig turned way easier with the scout box then it ever did with the fj box.

Thats my experience with the FJ boxes. If you are going to go to the work of putting a FJ box on, you are 2 steps ahead going with a scout box.

Only downside is you need a custom pitman arm which could be hard to find and a custom line made.

I think i paid 70$ shipped for my scout box off a IH forum.

Hate to try to pimp parts, but i'm going full hydro on my next rig. I have a box/lines/pump/pitman arm i'd get rid of cheap.
