My father-in-law has a scout II sitting up at his hunting camp that hasn't been moved in about 10 years. He says the accelerator cable broke on it one day, and it hasn't moved since. I was wondering what, if any parts on it that were easy swaps into a samurai. I've read on here that the rims will work, so going to see if he will let me take those. Anything else you guys can think of that may be beneficial to my sammy build.

I am currenty running a stock 1.3 with a my-fi fuel injection. Putting a YJ lift SUA in a few weeks.  Future plans for transfercase regear, lockers and homemade paint job.  Maybe power steering if time and money allow.

I will probably never go bigger than 31's, so would it be worth my time to swap axles. I don't do any heavy wheeling like rock crawling or anything. Just hit some mud holes while hunting.

Or would the gear ratio in the axles work so that I don't have to regear the transfercase?

Don't butcher a perfectly good Scout!  If nothing else, just replace the throttle cable and get it running again so you can sell it to someone who'll appreciate it - Scouts have as devoted a following as Samurais do!

I considered trying to fix it up for myself, but I was looking at it a few weeks back and the body is all rusted out. Plus, don't really have the time.

If it's a 4-banger, it'll have a highly desirable R&P gear ratio. Don't waste your time with the axles if it's a V8 rig.

It is a 4 cyl.  What gear ratio would I want with my 31's and stock transfercase.

you would want your stock sami axles ;D just my .03 cents. if your not doing any rocks and your staying at 31's the price it will take for you to put those under a sammy would not be worth it. plus with those axles you haev to cut and rotate the knuckles and weld them back. just run your sami axles until you break those if you ever do. even though the scout is rusted out someone would still pay a pretty good bit for it if its complete ;)

The most important question is what year is it. Early scout II's had dana 30 front axles and you dont want one of those. Even then the dana 44's out of a scout are the least desireable ones to start out with. They are 60 inches wide wms ~wms wich is wider than the outside width of a samy tub. That would look silly with 31's and be that wide.

My old zuk with scout 44's on 35" claw's that had a true height of 32.5".The front axle was cut and turned and it was linked/coil's.The stock knuckles/steering/drag link arm's would be a really tight fit running leaf spring's.I was using the scout box for steering also.Never had a problem with the axle's except for the hub bolt's constantly backing out.
It would be alot of work to use the scout axle's with 31" tire's especially if you dont plan on really wheeling your zuk, your diff clearance would not be so great either.I would just stay with the stocker's and use the pump and steering box off the scout for P.S

please dont cut up the scout, someone will give you some good coin for it as a hole vehicle. scouts are pretty sought after rigs. [thumbsup]

I agree with everyone above. Scouts rock too much. I plan on owning one after i get me a trans am.... but the girl thinks i should stop buying toys and buy a normal, boring car.
