Hey i have been thinking/wondering instead of carpet would a couple coats or one thick coat of a bed liner type material cut down on the road noise? What about under coating? I can get and i actually think i already have the undercoating gun and could spray it at my uncles shop. Should i just buy a gallon can of it or just buy a couple spray cans? Or should i even do it at all? Would the bed liner material be better underneath as a sound deadener? Thanks

the stock bedliner stuff thats in zuks if for the birds if you put your spray in bedliner over that its gonna chip out sooner or later. from ym experience with the bedliner stuff, dont waste your time with the canned stuff its not hard enough and peels up over time. go with herculiner from autozone. it doees well.

Bedliners do not cut noise. Carpet and good doorpanels do help. Samurais are loud even with the best in sound deadening. Amplifiers help with  good speakers to cover the noises. Loud young sexy women scantily clad are great too but not a great idea if the wifey finds out.

The liners i was looking at was a 2 part system. The liner and an activator. But i probaly can agree with the noise reduction.. Any other suggestions ;on how to keep the carpet clean?

Ever thought of rubber carpeting? Easy to clean and does help with noise.

As far as keeping it clean I used Autozones bed coat inside the tub. Worked great and cleans up with a hose. Loved it and will do it again in a heart beat.

Was there more road noise after you went from carpet to lining?

I dunno...really loud to really really loud is hard to say. I run  diesel top off no muffler and rattles I can't yet find. It's alot like sticking your head inside a trash can of nuts and bolts, stereo on max and the ol lady screaming ,"We're goin to die!" all at once.

Compared to my big truck the Sammy is real loud. The liner changed nothing on noise level. Leaving the wife home is quieter but not as much fun. Stock sammy around the corner is real quiet with carpet, door panels and everything stock.

Freebird- how did it do with the noise? Is it loud or is it sustainable. I am ok with spending the money and the time if it would help me cut down on the noise. But if it is going to be the same or louder than carpet then i might as well stick with carpet and just ruin it.. Also what is the "small" kit? 2 gallons? or a one gallon?

it deadens some of the noise but its a zuk...they are notoriouslt tinny and unless you insulate the crap out of them you will get noise no matter what.

the small kit is a gallon and a quart of activator. it is enough to do 2 zuk tubs easy. i would also recommend if your going to spray it like i did get yourself a gallon of automotive reducer and use the whole gallon to thin the mix down in a 5 gallon bucket and use a large drill and paint mixer to mix it. plan on throwing the gun away....and MASK EVERYTHING!!! make sure threaded holes have a bolt stuck in them if you intend to use them that can be removed immediatly after your done shooting... and prep prep prep no matter what you do..you cut corners on the prep and it will peel and lift.

i like the stuff so much that i plan on doing the bed of my truck if i dont put a flat bed on it..

Yeah the prep is key. I do epoxy floor coatings in hospitals, plants, hangers, auto dealers and other places. And thats what i tell everyone. The kits on the link you had in your review have it as 2-gallons of part A 2 quarts of part B, a gallon of reducer, and i think additives.. Do you think i should just get a gallon. I really want to put a thick coat on the tub and prep and put a thick coat underneath. I am going to be using this thing as my D/D. And probably a good deal on the interstate and do want to have to wear ear muffs or plugs to be comfortable.

i used the small truck bed kit that came with one gallon of the urethane and one quart of the hardener and a big ziplock bag full of the fine rubber granules. i didnt go uber heavy on mine and i had almost 1/3 left over and could have went heavier. its been plenty heavy and has held up great in the past year.

their small kit is right around $100. not much more expensive then herculiner or durabak. search the sellers store

Nice write-up & good tips :)

Question#1: What is the "pot life" once you mix in the catalyst? Does it set up pretty fast, or do you have a few hours to spray it?
#2: Do you know if the company that sells the kit also sells the mask with the "wire" in it?

Thanks
