If you had issues with our folks, other folks, the Park Service, our event...anything that had to do with Fall 09 Zuwharrie please take a moment and message me. Let me know what the problem was and how things played out. We want to make you experience at our event the best it can be but unfortunately I can't work on issues I don't know about, so pass me the 4-1-1!
I know there were some problems with at least one other group up there. If you know what happened and especially if you can help me identify them I will do what I can to work out the issues to make Uwharrie a better place for us all!

Thanks,
R/T

Food for thought for you guys though. Take a little less time attempting something. I heard a few grumbles about it.  ;D

Saturday afternoon when the grey Sammi was trying Kodak. I was not of the opinion he was taking too long but apparently a few others were. None of the complainants got in a rig and attempted the rock though.

That's when.   He was at 60mph + and either drifting or crabbing around the corner.  I headed for the ditch and had to get out and lock the hubs to get out.

That's when.   He was at 60mph + and either drifting or crabbing around the corner.  I headed for the ditch and had to get out and lock the hubs to get out.

Forest Service had (2) Mud Devils Buggies pulled over (No lights / No Tags) reading them their last rights just past the north Rky Mtn loop crossing on the FS road.

Bama said that by the time he pulled out they had one more buggy.

While busy, they seemed to be trying their best to keep things safe.

On my way back (Trailering)  I stopped by the out post.   Coming back on Mullinax rd from the Creek bottom towards cain break horse camp....

I was pulling the uphill grade in swinging wide for the S-curve to keep the trailer from dropping off the 1' ate out section and met a group of horse men coming down the hill on my side of the already to narrow road.  This was bad and I let up...  To make things worse their was an Excursion with trailer in tow coming down the opposing side of the already too narrow road.  Luckly the Excursion had slowed for the horses and was able to stop.

One of the horses either fell in th ditch or spooked and fell.  Scared me ~ and i felt bad for the horse guy.  But I felt their was too much traffic to be riding horses on the street thru the s-curves when they have trails laid out to avoid that hazardous area.

Sammy Davis was behind me and got a birds eye view.

I talked to my buddy who was there last w/e and he said they did not get ticketed.  Those two buggies do have lights and tags too.

There should be no reason for anyone to ride a horse on the FS roads.  Have you guys seen how many horse trails there are at URE?  They have 3x as many trails as the ORV group has.  Riding a horse down the FS roads is no different that riding one down Wendover Ave in Greensboro.  It doesn't make sense.  Heck, it might even be illegal, but I am just speculating on that.

The ones I have seen riding horses ride on the side of the road when possible, if they ride the roads at all...
In my opinion they have as much right there as we do. Their trails cross the roads just like ours do. New riders who are unfamiliar with the area most likely have an easier time finding their way back to camp by traveling the edge of the road.

Does a horse fit in the same category as like a bicycle?  So maybe it is legal to ride one down the side of the road?  You say they have as much right to be there as we do, but our vehicles are licensed and insured to be on public roads which is what the FS roads are.  Either way, it isn't safe and I wouldn't do it.

Horses fall into a similar category as a bike, or shoes, for that matter. As far as I know, you can ride one down MLK Blvd if you want to, but who'd want to? As far as I know, they have the right-of-way over a car. You can get a ticket for DWI on one. The fact is, we are all hobbyists of some sort. Bikers, horse people, wheelers. If we watch out for each other, we're a stronger force than if we just look out for ourselves. If I know horses may be around, I try to be considerate and keep my speed and noise down. But then, I kinda care what other people think, too.  :P

I wouldn't ride one down the road, but that's just me looking out for my own neck.  As far as I know, horses fall into that same categorie....they have every legal right to be there, and accordingly must follow all applicable traffic laws.  That doesn't mean it's very smart to ride one right through heavy traffic, but being dumb isn't illegal yet.   :D

Catfish is right.  We need to have those people on our side.  If/when the Greenie Nazis have their way, we won't have places to wheel but there will still be horse trails.  So we could certainly use their support and blessings when possible.   ;)

From my understanding state law allows you to ride within the easement of a state maintained road. The FS roads might have different rules though if they are not under state maintenance. I know there is no way I'm going to take a horse that is not road safe anywhere that involves roads.

We all need to examine our place and examine our image collectively. The members of the Zu tend to be good citizens from my experience but, we have a lot of idiots out there that do nothing to help our image. Just like the MTB crowd gets lumped with wheeled access we OHV guys all get lumped into a single group, good or bad.

Slow down, be respectful and aware that our actions reflect on ALL off us when we are on public roads and in view of the public. On the trails we are among our own kind and therefore "judged" a little differently.

I know it would not be a bad idea for FS to do a little better job of marking the horsecamps and trail crossings before the actual camps and such. Over the years I know I've been caught off guard by the crossing before. Now I know about where they are and about where the camps are and drive accordingly.

On that note. From what I understand FS, DOT and the promoters of the event over at the stables had a bad route for the exempt vehicles. No reason for them to be routed in the same way we go to group camp, have them turn left instead of right to access the trails and mark the route. Might not be a bad idea if ther are multiple events again with exempts to close that first horsecamp on the right as you come in for the weekend.

For a place not intended for the amount of traffic we had I think things went pretty well.

I do not think there should be any exempt . what happens when im on the road and one of the exempt vehicles wrecks with me and has no insurance is the forest service or state going to pay for it ? I doubt it .I think it was very wrong to exempt them.

Good point and might be why the route was set the way it was. As far as a accident one would think a driver of a exempt vehicle would take it wasy and drive cautiously. If a accident was to happen I have no clue how it would play out.

Well ill say this Here in alabama no one tags an offroad rig, as all of our offroad parks are you haul in and never see a public road again.
I myself like the Idea of how the heep boys did their ride, it did not leave the untaged guys out.
Im sure the event insurance (as big as they are) would cover any accident.

A portion of your insurance goes to paying for the "uninsured motorist." Check into it. Bear in mind, your chances of getting hit by an uninsured motorist are exponentially greater in your own town than he roads in Uwharrie.

My complaint is about the Big Dixie Boggers and a couple of the Mud Devils not showing courtesy or respect I should say to the smaller rigs on the trails. Point being I was making my first atempt at Kodak , didnt even get my tires up on the ledge, I look to my right and there is this big [censored] orange rig coming across the ledge sideways. He didnt even acknowledge that I was there, he drove all the way up to the right front tire of my rig, so I backed up . Then he and five others drove up and parked on the top , I had to wait till they were done talking and gone before I could try the rock. Not one of them made a notion that I was sitting down at the bottom waiting. It kind of ticked me. Then I read a post on pirate 4x4 about  the Big Dixie Boggers not being a very good group of people.

My biggest issue is that you all didn't pick my number this year for the raffle. I usually win something, so I was devastated. I was even considering buying a Jeep! Common sense and civility took over so I'll keep my Sami, come to the Spring Zu and try again.
In all seriousness, I had no complaints with the Zu Crew, the Park Service, the raffle is great, I love to see people win free stuff even if it isn't me, and I felt the event was well done, and well attended considering the economy.
I think it is a great idea to go to a single event per year. I think a late spring event would be great myself, but I love the hot weather so take that as you will!
THANKS ZU STAFF it was a lot of fun.
Having the other event going actually seemed to thin out the trail herds, but I ran a moderate group so I can't speak to the harder trails.

I'm the guy who started that shitstorm with BDB. Supposedly what I had to say after a couple yelling matches over the phone was taken seriously and under advisement.

We shall see how it pans out.

I talked to Kevin (orange buggy) first and voiced my opinion.

Then the sack riders started in on me in the thread on PBB. After a couple death threats I decided to allow it to continue until they looked like a bunch of retards.

A couple people got banned on another site as well. Frankly, I'm surprised I wasn't banned.

I then ended up on the phone with Paul from BDB. After going off the chain with him we talked and the matter was supposedly closed.

Time will tell if any difference was made.

If you would like to talk to Paul i can get you to him.

You the guy with the really sweet blue Zuk buggy?

I read your thread on pirate, and I just wanted to say you handled the whole thing very well. Guess of some of the attitudes over there, I don't visit very often, but you sir handled your self very well.......much respect ;)

Steve

Thanks, I have lucid moments.  8)

I've been around Pirate since 99 or so and frankly, except for several assholes most of those guys know their poop. You just gotta sift though the nonsense.

I saw the blue night on Kodak and yes, it was very nice.

We had a similar issue with the others just bombarding their way through as we were waiting patiently at Kodak.

You Zuk people are the nicest, funniest and best mannered people that I have ever met. I own a canam four wheeler but my son has two zuks and I was able to purchase a couple of t-shirts and other items for him during the fall zuwharrie fest since he was unable to attend. Me, my gal, and my dog were riding the yellow canam and had a blast with you folks. However......................... When I returned to the parking lot to load my atv, I discovered a jeep cj parked with-in about a foot or so along the side of my dark blue nissan titan pickup truck from the left rear wheel back. Much to my surprise I now have a 7 inch long scratch down to the primer just in front of my rear bumper. While I'm extremely unhappy with my pickup's first scratch, I plan to return next spring to ride during your spring zuwharrie and I plan to offer a bounty on non-zuks! Just kidding, but I now wish I had waited on the person to return and have a  personal discussion on the matter of the scratch. Keep up the good work, and thanks for tolerating an atv!

I'm glad that you found the sight and replied to a post here. I was driving the white, gray, and black camo diesel sami on Dickey Bell. You all were there with your trail dog (great dog!) and watched us drive down and back up and back down a couple of times. There was seven vehicles in our group. It was really neat to see your dog on the back of your ATV. You are very welcomed to come in the Spring, bring a Zuk and meet us at the group camp, I'd love to shake your hand and see you all again.
PS- I think you'll find that 99.9% of Zu folks are high quality people. They let me come to events to keep that .1% thing going! ;D

Sorry to hear about your truck! :o
