will swapping in lower transfercase gears effect my high range gearing. i thought it would only change my low range but i think i may have heard something about it changing the high range.

I like this one.  It is an excel file that you can download and punch your numbers into.  It even has a tabs for both the 86-88 trannied samurais and the 88.5-95 trannied samurais (different 5th gear ratios).
Once you click on the link below, you have to click on the link in the new window it opens, in order to either download the file or open it.
Oh, one more note....the high and low ratios are wrong in that calculator.  The samurai tcase high range ratio is 1.409 and the low range ratio is 2.268.  So you can change them and resave the file, that way you won't have to change them everytime you open the calculator.
Also, not that it is a big deal, but.....the 5th gear tranny ratio changed in 88.5, not 90 as the spreadsheet in the link indicates.

1.409 and 2.268 are the stock samurai tcase ratios.  Those didn't show up in the spreadsheet that I posted the link to, when I opened it....maybe it was just a problem on my end.

I installed a case yesterday in my sammi.  4.9 and I have 31" tires.
It is just right for me.. Very Nice upgrade.. It took about two hours with no special tools....
I would think rock crawlers might go slightly lower on the gears though...Louisiana has no rock! Just Swamp..

i have 6.5:1s in my sami with 32s i love it.   its turning about 4200  and 65-70.  the 4.9s are nice in the way that you dont have to grind the case down but the 6.5s are like 80 bucks cheaper

yes, the t-case gears should correct your speedo, but your trip and odo will remain off.

The vendors usually supply the percent reduction both high and low on their website which is helpful because you can plug that into the calculator.

I put 5.14:1 t-case gears in my zuk and I got a 12% reduction in high range

A buddy of mine has a set of those he never installed.  I'm thinking about buying them off him what size tires are you running with the 5.14's?

I got the 4.89 TC gears and 3.92 R&P gears and I'm thinking it's the best combo for 30"-31" tires. Not to low on highway and perfect offroad. Maybe if we, here in Ukraine, have some rocks then I would go for 6.5 TC gears.
