VERY nice writeup Stephenw!!!!  ;D

The mod seems to be much easier to do then what you went through, but you wanted to keep the Sammy sliders to make use of the ability to slide the passenger seat forward from behind, right?

Couldn't the Neon seats bolt up much easier justing drilling a couple of holes and using either the Neon sliders or even the Samurai sliders w/out welding?

There are other more simple ways, right?

Here are 3 photos.  Since the seats are bolted in, it is now difficult to get very clear photos of the spacers and angle iron bracket which are now painted black, but here goes:

1.  DSC00440.JPG  = drivers seat right rear with one inch square tube one inch long with 1/2 inch bolt 2 1/2 inches long running down through seat rail mounting foot, spacer then floor pan.

2.  DSC00442.JPG  = passenger seat right front showing the 1 1/2 inch angle iron running cross ways across the floor pan.  Neon seat rail bends down 90 degrees and mounts to hole drilled in angle iron.

3.  DSC00444.JPG  = drivers seat left front showing a better shot of the 1 1/2 inch angle iron running cross ways across the floor pan and the Neon seat rail bolted to the angle iron.

Let me know if this is not clear to you as to what is going on.

I'm not using any angle iron or spacers. Mine is a factory quality installation. That is why I chose to do it the way I did.

Yes, your installation is very nice Stephenw.  Thanks again for the detailed write up.

Sweet, ya. Both are interesting ways of doing it. I just came back from an auto wrecker and the 1999 4 door seats felt alot more comfortable than the 95/97 2 and 4 door seats they had also. So, I think I'm going to look for 1999 and up 2 door seats.

One Sick Puppy, thanks for the info on the comfort factor.  I was thinking the same thing about newer 2 door seats.  I think I will look for some seats too.

The particular vehicle that I found the seats most appealing was a 4-door 1999 SX 16 valve, I think it said on it. The seat felt like it had good lumbar support and the headrest really comfy, too, from a "put your seat back all the way and relax" consideration.

I no there was mention of being able to modify the 4-door seats so they coule tilt forward all the way, but the 2-door seats with the latch on the back of the backrest... that didn't appear to be a clean modification. Looks like the latch is build-in to the backrest.

The two door seats seem to  be really difficult to find compared to the four door ones.  When looking, I found the newer ones (I found 2005) were much cushier than the the mid and late 1990's ones.

Congrats!  I'm convinced that the Pick and Pulls perhaps don't sell that many seats and so the prices are cheap.  Did you also use the seat belts from the donor?  They fit in with minor surgery and get you newer seat belts.  I saved my Sammi rails, but dumped the seats.  Anybody need some good rails?

Cushier seats the better, that is the reason for switching to the Neon seats, at least for me.  So the later models are better, then that is what I will get.  Now, the 2dr are hard to find, but are the most desirable, correct?  But, the 4dr can be modified to behave just like the 2dr models, correct?

As far as modifying the tracks, I will do like Stephenw, but bolt my back rest to the lower seat portion instead of weld.

How's this sound?

This site is loaded with threads by many folks who have modifed Neon seats and other seats from other vehicles both keeping sammi sliders and using the Neon sliders.  I read many of them before I did mine

Several are:

http://bbs.zuwharrie.com/content/topic,66903.0.html

http://bbs.zuwharrie.com/content/topic,42741.0.html

A search in the How-To Section  And Samurai Tech using "Neon Seats"  provides a wealth of information.

This thread by tgzzzz provided me with best information on modifying the 4 door seats so that they would tilt forward.

http://bbs.zuwharrie.com/content/topic,93138.0.html

I used his advice on reversing the spacer bolt and then cutting out the spacer so the seat ratchet would work.  I used a dremel tool to cut a slot in the back of the plastic trim piece and have attached a couple of photos showing that.

I am very pleased with the outcome.

Very nice writeup!  Thanks for posting it.  It's nice to be able to see ALL the steps involved and all the little details.  Sure, most people could figure out the installation with no problems with all the parts in hand, but it's nice to know exactly what you're getting into before shopping for Neon seats.  Cool...

With minor surgery I was able to use the Neon seat belts which were only 4 years old compared to my 21 years worn Sammy belts.

[/quote]
So what is the minor surgery to fit the belts. I am about ready to do this (seat belts) as soon as I finish doing my passenger neon seat install.
