At the start of summer the ac blew fuses and would not engage the compressor. The acceptable range of resistance for the magnetic clutch was 3-5 ohms. I checked and mine was 5.8 so I replaced it. As soon as I turned on the ac the fuse blew. I replaced it and the ac worked fine for several months. Cold air quit coming out so I checked the fuse and sure enough it was blown. I bought a box of fuses and sometimes it would run for a few minutes and other times it blew immediatly. I checked the ohms on the clutch again and the resistance is 5.3. It's over $100 for the part and a lot of work to replace, what's going on? Could low freon cause this? It did not get very cool unless I was on a highway trip. Help please. Thanks, Mike

I was  X  here 60 days ago...

Compressor clutch only pulles a few amps ~ the fan is where the load is.

A/C condenser cooling fan (in front of the radiator / condenser just behind the grill) is pulling too many amps.

They get funky from rust and road grime while no use in the winter.

Replace your A/C condenser pusher fan with a known good used one.

Can I get the fan out without losing the freon?

Took the fan out, it was definetly shot. A new used one is one it's way from Hawk Suzuki. Look's like the fan had not worked, probably some time before I bought it. The fan would explain why the cooling only worked on the highway. Looking back I doubt I would have had to replace the clutch coil in the compressor had I done the fan first. Thanks for the help.
