     Nice "flex" pic  One Sick Puppy. But it really makes clear how vulnerable a "below the spring" steering system is.  Catch a rock, and drive it home "pigeon toe'd :\\'(

Ya, you're right about the vulnerability of the lower crossbar. That would suck. But it's a pretty tough bar, I don't see myself whackin' anything so hard that it breaks the bar.

The bumper I bought used. I'm pretty sure it's a home-made job. I'm hoping I can attach a winch to it somehow.

    Your right about probably not "breaking" the bar...but "bending" it, even 1/4" back, would change your "toe-in".
     Nice bumper BTW, looks solid. You could cut a square hole, and weld in a 2" receiver, then only have your winch on when your "wheelin",  and not need  to worry about getting it stolen while it's parked at  "Home Depot"   :\\'( :\\'( :\\'((heard that sad story more than once).
